Montréal, Canada — August 2025 — At a time when some suggest Canada has lost its edge in the global dance music and nightlife scene, Montreal-based Funktasy is proving otherwise. The acclaimed record label, magazine, and cultural powerhouse proudly announces the launch of Velvet Bass Records, a fresh sublabel dedicated entirely to Dance, EDM, House, and electronic music both commercial and underground. This new sublabel is an addition to the already mega entity of Funktasy that entails the record label, magazine, academy and more.
The brainchild of Funktasy’s director, musician and DJ, Hoss, Velvet Bass aims to take dance music to more raw and cutting-edge heights. “This is the music of tomorrow, for Gen Z, Alpha and beyond,” says Hoss, whose visionary leadership has already grown Funktasy into a global powerhouse and one of the largest Canadian independent labels and digital publications.
Born in Canada but grown into a global force over the past 15 years, Funktasy has shaped music, culture, and the next generation of talent as part label, part magazine, and part academy. Velvet Bass is the natural next step in that journey, a platform focused on elevating innovative electronic artists and connecting them with vibrant audiences worldwide.
Velvet Bass, in partnership with Italy’s Heads Studio, located in Turin, boasts a rapidly expanding international roster of over 15 forward-thinking artists, such as United States’ Marko Leandro, Belgium’s Phil OD, UAE’s Tony Kay and Italy’s Tantok. This lineup has been carefully handpicked by Funktasy’s talented A&Rs to reflect the sublabel’s mission – pushing a sound that’s less radio-friendly and more festival-oriented.
