Atavista is Donald Glover’s new album. Glover, Whose stage name is Childish Gambino, has also announced a new tour to go along with his album.
The Grammy, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning artist will be touring North America, Europe and Oceania.
Glover begins his tour, The New World Tour, on Aug. 11, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK and ends on Feb. 11, 2025, in Perth Australia.
While on tour, Glover will most likely sprinkle fan favourites like five-time platinum “Redbone” with tracks from the latest album.
Glover initially released some of the tracks from Atavista along with other songs in an album called 3.15.2020, named for its release date.
He quietly released the album at the beginning of the pandemic and then withdrew it from streaming platforms when Atavista was released.
Songs like “Feels Like Summer” were left out of Atavista but survived as part of EPs like Summertime Pack released by Glover in 2018.
On Atavista, Glover polished songs, adding features by artists like Ariana Grande, 21 Savage, Summer Walker, and Young Nuddy for variety.
He used these sounds and voices to discuss a multitude of topics, from love, loss and gun violence.
Songs like “Sweet Thang”, “Little Foot Big Foot”, “Human Sacrifice” and “The Violence” each take on a topic, and attempt to explore Glover’s experiences and emotions.
Additionally, Glover has begun establishing himself as a force in the R&B genre with songs like “To Be Hunted” and “Human Sacrifice”.
Atavista continues his journey into adulthood from his initial album, Freaks and Geeks, and demonstrates the growth Glover has seen during the last several years.
We look forward to where this more adult Childish Gambino goes from here and the topics he will look to grapple with moving forward.
