Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience for the Next Generation

Vincent Van Gogh is an artist from the Netherlands whose work has inspired countless amounts of people. This artist, though his time was limited, had a unique way of looking at the world and an even more unique way of showing it. The works of art produced, such as “The Starry Night”, evoke emotions and ideas that could help mould a sense of creativity and freedom in the minds of the youth. It has been 135 years since Van Gogh roamed the Earth, and his work has been mounted in museums for all to see. However, not even Van Gogh could’ve predicted his work would be shown in this kind of light.

Kids, teens, adults, and really just about anyone of any age will find enjoyment at Van Gogh The Immersive Experience, but the kids who step foot into this exhibit will not forget that experience. The art is glued onto the walls in huge rooms with projectors. In another, they’ll be placed into the art itself within a VR world. The art and views in each room are different from the next, giving a fresh scene to an overwhelmed child’s mind. Last but not least, there’s a studio at the end to recreate Van Gogh’s works and have them projected onto the wall for all to see. The music found at this exhibit can be found on Spotify, and there are similar playlists on YouTube Music.

Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience

Travelling throughout cities of the nation and through different countries of the world, this exhibit offers a new way of viewing art that has remained static since the time of its conception, in turn benefiting us all. Immersiveness isn’t new, but the technologies that keep getting better allow one to sink into depths with greater detail and enjoy an overall greater user experience. We are one of the first generations to view art in such a way. The way it’s viewed will continue to become more immersive as the technologies allow.

Van Gogh’s mind today may not be able to handle such immersiveness with his battles of psychotic episodes and delusions, and in turn, we may not want to see the world exactly as he once did. With this exhibit, though, we are one step closer to understanding the man himself, and are literally able to be put into his work.

While journeying through the exhibit, different rooms and attractions, there’s one thing that remains consistent, and it’s a subtle and relaxing amount of blues and jazz. These tunes help drive a feeling that Van Gogh’s pieces might have been trying to display, as well as helping to soothe an overstimulated mind.

Shared Emotional Experience

In a room roughly 20,000 sq. ft, sit two projectors that create an experience all the way around the room. The artwork on the wall moves and bends, and is only the first step of being brought to life. In front of your eyes, the painter’s most prestigious works illuminate for all to see. Young visitors will be mesmerized, taking in an unforgettable, awe-filled introduction to the world of art.

While here, there’s a brief moment of capturing the images at large and really getting the chance to take it all in. With the images so big, seeing the brushstrokes, experiencing them in fine detail, and analyzing Van Gogh’s works allows everyone in the room to have a shared emotional experience.

Stepping into the Art

While the walls may be filled with Van Gogh’s art from floor to ceiling, the opportunity to step foot into a work of art is one room away. With the use of a VR headset, visitors can virtually explore the works of art in a first-hand way that has been curated with care and time. The moment the goggles go on, the user steps into some of his most important works.

This immersion will have one walking through eight of Van Gogh’s scenes. Getting to know these works on a very personal level, while songs like Pfrancing by Miles Davis play in the background, setting the tone for the whole experience. The collaboration between music and art here mixes to sink the guests deeper into an already enriched viewing experience, further helping to show the youth how these different forms of art complement each other.

Telling the Story a Different Way

Art inflicts inspiration, emotions, releases dopamine, and can even reduce stress or anxiety. The team at the interactive exhibit knows this and is already showing powerful, thought-provoking works of art with their own twist. Sculptings of paintings for a 3D view, hanging objects, and light shows bring all these paintings to life while keeping the experience interactive. From walking a certain way to standing at a certain distance to actually see the art unfold, the exhibit allows visitors to engage deeply and fully immerse themselves in the experience.

This exhibit offered William Van Gogh, a great descendant of Vincent, a chance to sit and view life through Vincent’s eyes. As it offers this to everyone who goes, it provides an opportunity to take a glimpse into another time. It allows for an immersive experience that can provoke emotions, stimulate a sense of feeling, and add an element to thought. Sitting in the room of Van Gogh, or as close to his room as one can get, will give the guest a first-hand look into how his mind could’ve been operating. This is an immersive experience that only some can dream of. This type of in-person, physical feel immersion doesn’t just put you in the room, but will light a fire of inspiration in you, any knowingly or unknowingly.

Adding Your Own Piece of the Puzzle

After taking in the full exhibit, the art glowing from floor to ceiling, the music that synced with your footsteps and breath, the VR experience that pulled you straight into Van Gogh’s paintings, and the sculptures that made you feel like part of the canvas—it’s now your turn to contribute.
