The battle between skinny vs baggy jeans has existed since the 1990s, and it remains unsolved. Many different trends came and went, some without even getting noticed, but jeans have been in the fashion industry forever, and they won’t disappear without leaving a mark.

Follow the Playlist on Spotify“Who even likes skinny Jeans?” The question pops into my mind whenever I see someone wearing skinny jeans, wondering how exceptional the same outfit would’ve looked with baggy jeans.
Is Baggy the New Black?
The trend of baggy jeans was introduced by the hip-hop and skateboarding community in the 90s; well, it’s not that easy to flip and flop wearing tight skinny jeans, right? But nobody knew their slight inconvenience would give birth to something so exceptional that people would turn that into their personalities. By this, I mean that many people today prefer baggy clothes over anything else, to the extent that their entire personality revolves around baggy clothes. Contrary to popular belief, skinny jeans aren’t the only stylish option—baggy jeans have made a strong comeback, offering a comfortable and trendy alternative.
In 2020, when the world was going through a pandemic, a lot of things were reintroduced in the world of fashion. Baggy Jeans also made their comeback around that time, and this time, it is here to stay. Celebrities and Internet personalities like Hayley Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Emma Chamberlain have contributed their fair share in supporting this trend of Baggy Jeans.
Is the Debate Worth Fighting For?
The debate between baggy and skinny jeans is something that will persist forever. Baggy jeans are a trend that has been carried by Gen Z, while on the other hand skinny jeans are supported by the millennials. But is trend the only reason why baggy jeans are back in fashion? There is definitely more to this debate. There are several reasons why people prefer baggy jeans over skinny jeans, one of them being that baggy jeans complement almost every body type.
If you go around asking the reason why people prefer baggy jeans, most of their answers might not be fashion but ‘comfort’. When baggy jeans came back in fashion, the first thing they brought with them was the comfort of wearing them and being able to move your body without feeling ashamed. While skinny jeans do enhance your body type they are considered uncomfortable by many.
Is Fashion More than Just Looking Good?
I remember watching “Devil Wears Prada” for the first time and getting overwhelmed by the movie and Miranda Priestly herself. I wonder if she had to share her opinion about baggy jeans. Her answer would be: “Baggy Jeans? Back in Fashion? Groundbreaking”, which is sarcasm, by the way. Even though after receiving so many ‘Yays’ from celebrities, influencers, and internet personalities, I wonder if baggy jeans have entered the fashion world or are still ‘considered casual wear’?
In recent news, there have been a few sightings of skinny jeans, which makes me believe that the movement to bring them back into fashion has started.
While Skinny Jeans Offer a More Polished Look, Baggy Jeans Provide a Casual, Effortless vibe.
Ultimately, choosing between the two depends on personal style and comfort. Many fashion enthusiasts find themselves embracing both styles, appreciating the flexibility to switch up their look depending on the occasion. Whether fitted or loose, skinny and baggy jeans have earned their place in today’s wardrobes.
