Synthosys – Sicily-Born, Vision-Driven, Funktasy-Signed

Synthosys - Guardami

Synthosys is not your average pop-electronic act. While others may be chasing algorithm-friendly beats and disposable singles, Synthosys craft soundscapes deep-seated in emotions and storytelling. Each piece reflects a “moment in life”. Their sound is something cinematic. Cerebral, without being cold, and emotionally charged, without being chaotic. They don’t make just simple beats; they create “soundtracks for every moment in life”. Each release is a full-on emotional architecture. It’s that deep. That vivid. That intentional. Think Aphex Twin shaking hands with Max Richter at golden hour, somewhere on a volcanic coastline. That’s the energy.

Synthosys didn’t plan their formation. It just happened, “spontaneously”, as they’ve said. A collision of three creative forces: N3oz, Spine9 and Luigi. The three Sicilian-born talents crossed paths by chance, but eventually found out that something magical could arise when they channelled their complementarities into one single artistic effort. Each is armed with their own creative instincts and contributes to a perfect sonic fusion.

Now under the wing of Funktasy Records, Synthosys has dropped two hauntingly elegant singles – “Watch” and “Say Something”, as well as their Italian versions “Guardami” and “Di’ Qualcosa” – each dripping in cyclical tension, texture and tactile emotion. But this is just the overture. The trio isn’t chasing trends or streams. They’re building an ecosystem. A philosophy. A signature sound that doesn’t beg for attention, but it demands a present, attentive listening. It’s asking you to feel and to read between the lines.

Funktasy Magazine sat down with the Italian trio to dive into their world, from shared vision to sonic influences, creative chemistry and what it means to create music that goes beyond formulas.

Congratulations on joining Funktasy Records’ roster. Let’s rewind to the beginning. How did Synthosys come together?

The project came together spontaneously. It was the result of different paths crossing naturally. There wasn’t a formal “founding moment” but rather a series of coincidences that led us to join forces. From that point on, we realized there was a shared vision to explore: creating music that goes beyond mere consumption.

You each bring diverse and complementary skills to your project. How do your differences fuel your creative process?

We find balance in our differences. N3oz and Luigi are primarily responsible for the production side: they start with a sonic idea, build the atmosphere and shape the foundation of the track. Then Spine9 steps in to give voice to the entire process through lyric writing. This flow allows us to craft songs born from different perspectives that merge into a unified sonic vision.

Who are your sonic heroes – the artists that shaped your sound or inspired you?

Our influences are quite broad. From Aphex Twin to Depeche Mode, via Moderat, Nils Frahm, Nine Inch Nails, Moby, Burial, Röyksopp and even Madonna, who we consider one of the greatest icons when it comes to blending music and image. On the soundtrack side, we’re deeply inspired by artists like Hans Zimmer, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Max Richter: composers capable of evoking entire inner worlds with just a few essential sounds.

Your new Funktasy releases with such tracks as “Say Something” and “Watch”, as well as their Italian versions, have been quite successful. Are there any stories behind one of those songs? What are your emotional and conceptual goals with each project?

“Watch”, for instance, came from a reflection on the anxiety of waiting and on the passive observation of time passing. It’s a track that alternates between tension and release, with a cyclical and intentionally irregular structure. We always try to build an emotional bridge with the listener, even when the message stays implicit.

Can you walk us through the anatomy of a Synthosys track? Who brings what to the table, and how do you deliver a finished project out of a concept idea?

Our music is born from a shared three-way creative connection. N3oz and Luigi naturally build the sonic structure, following a continuous flow in which each element takes shape with precision. At the same time, Spine9 steps into the process by listening to those early sounds and allowing the lyrics to emerge spontaneously, almost as if they were already written between the notes. Production, melody and writing evolve together from the start, growing as one cohesive creative act.

You state as a band that you desire to break “conventional listening barriers.” How do you know when a track has achieved that, and what does that mean for your listeners?

When it still manages to surprise us even after hours of work. Or when it doesn’t follow traditional structures, yet it still works. We want listeners to feel slightly disoriented, but never alienated. It’s our way of encouraging deeper, more conscious listening, beyond formulas.

You were all born and raised in Sicily, a place known for its intense beauty and rich cultural heritage. How has this region shaped your sound or artistic vision?

The Sicilian landscape has always expanded our imagination. Growing up surrounded by volcanoes, coastlines, countryside, and meaningful silences taught us to perceive sound as an extension of the environment. The light, the contrasts, [and] the slow and profound rhythms of our homeland have become part of how we build music, which often aims to evoke rather than narrate.

Each of your tracks sounds distinct, unpredictable yet deliberate. Do you consciously aim to make every song different, or does that uniqueness just emerge naturally through your process?

Yes, but it is never forced. We often change instruments, approaches and contexts, but never betray the soul of our songs. That uniqueness comes naturally: we love experimenting, challenging ourselves and venturing into new sonic territory. The context changes, but the outcome always carries our signature. It’s as if each track is a new story written in the same language.

The genres you produce range from electropop to IDM and ambient. How do you maintain artistic cohesion across such a wide palette of genres?

We believe coherence doesn’t come from the genre, but from the vision. We use a wide range of sounds, yet there’s always a recognizable imprint: attention to detail, a certain sense of tension and depth. That’s our language.

If Synthosys was a philosophy, what would be its core belief?

“Nothing is random, everything is to be deciphered.” Every sound, every pause, every aesthetic choice holds meaning. Listening is an active act, like reading between the lines.

There’s a strong visual and cinematic feel in your music. When you’re involved with other artistic projects – a film or a fashion show – what kind of atmosphere do you aim to create?

Our nature is to create soundtracks for every moment in life. Each track is born to accompany emotions, images and states of mind. That’s why we love collaborating with visual projects like events, films or documentaries: they allow us to expand our sonic language and build immersive atmospheres, capable of telling stories without words. We’re always searching for a balance between suggestion and presence, between what is heard and what is felt.

Where do you see yourselves in the next three to five years? Is there a dream you are longing to achieve?

Our goal is to grow Synthosys into a recognizable brand not only in music, but in everything connected to it: performance, visual arts, audiovisual content, immersive experiences. We see ourselves in a space where the project is not just musical but also conceptual, capable of merging sound, image and presence. The dream is to build a multisensory experience with a unique, recognizable identity, one that leaves a mark long after the music stops.
