This process is a rewarding workout that the Funktasy team highly believes in. The top ten DJs of the year is an important distinction that needs to be earned only by the best.

Every year the team searches for ten artists who have displayed exemplary music the previous year. Their talents and hard work have led them to create some inspiring music experiences. The Funktasy team wishes to reward that dedication and display their talents to the world. The following artists are the Top Ten Techno DJs of 2024.

Deborah De Luca

Deborah De Luca

Deborah de Luca is an Italian hard techno DJ, and label owner. She started her career in the entertainment industry as a dancer, but found a passion for DJing when she met DJ and producer Giuseppe Cennamo in her hometown of Naples. She has found success worldwide, often regarded as a global powerhouse in techno. De Luca’s hard techno and melodic sounds have enraptured audiences around the globe. She founded Solamente – a techno and electronic record label based in Naples – in 2013, first as a way to release and promote her own music, but it has since grown into a flourishing label with many talented artists. Deborah will be headlining multiple festivals in 2024, including bringing it home to co-headline the afterparty as Social Music City at Jesolo Music Park this June.

Carl Cox

Carl Cox

No stranger to Funktasy’s top 10 list, Carl Cox is a British techno and dance DJ based out of Australia. He started his journey at the age of fifteen, and is a bonafide powerhouse in the genre. Cox’s grew in his career in the 80s, playing hip-hop and electronic music in clubs in London, England, and is considered a pioneer and founder in the sounds of dance, techno, and house. He had a profound impact on the British rave scene, marked by iconic residencies. Cox founded Intec Records in 1999, producing a plethora of chart-topping singles. He held a residency in Ibiza for almost two decades, and it solidifies his status as an icon in the clubbing scene. Carl continues to shape the scene with his legendary work, headlining shows and festivals worldwide in 2024 where fans can get a chance to witness the championing of house and techno.

SPFDJ

SPFDJ

SPFDJ is best known for her energy, style, and general debauchery in the techno scene. She has played around with many different styles, with her music being a mashup and exploration of different elements of techno, hardcore, EBM and other electronic styles. She was introduced into the lineup of musicians at Herrensauna – a monthly rave notorious in Berlin’s queer scene – in 2018. Since then, she has founded her own label Intrepid Skin to showcase her own work as well as some of her peers’. Her incomparable artistic eye and impeccable mixing skills have pushed her work to the forefront of forward thinking techno artists in the last few years. SPFDJ’s taking this artistic vision to festivals in 2024, co-headlining XClub’s Hide the Junk in Brisbane, Australia this June, as well as continuing her residency with Herrensauna.

Indira Paganotto

Indira Paganotto

Indira Paganotto is widely considered one of Spain’s most recognized artists. She grew up in a house full of music, with her father being a DJ in the 80s. Her music takes that 80s and 90s influence she grew up with, and blends it with a mix of disco, jazz, and techno to create undeniable danceability and groove for listeners. Paganotto’s been on top of the world the last few years, headlining iconic major events and festivals worldwide like Tomorrowland and EDC Las Vegas. Indira’s been nothing short of busy these past few years, launching her own label ARTCORE in 2022, followed by a collaboration with fellow techno DJ Nina Kravitz in 2023. Fans can connect with Indira’s infectious energy in the summer of 2024 on her ARTCORE tour, with stops in Rome, Istanbul, and Barcelona.

Solomun

Solomun

Mladen Solomun is a Bosnian-German DJ who has won multiple DJ awards for Best Producer, Best DJ, and Best Melodic House Music DJ. Born in Travnik in the former Yugoslavia, Solomun moved to Hamburg as a child with his family. Mladen began his production career in film, founding a small film production company which he ran for five years before moving into the music industry. In 2005 Solomun founded the record company Diynamic and has since built a strong career. In addition, Solomun has residency at two clubs in Ibiza and has a character in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) Online 2018 DLC, After Hours. Solomun also collaborated with Rockstar games in 2018 to create the music video, Customer is King, completely using the in-game engine to create the visuals. Solomun is notable as a unifying figure in the techno scene, using his label to shine a light on not only his own releases but those of other techno artists. With influences derived from funk and soul beats, Solomun’s remixes are his strong suit. After featuring in the 2022 Top Ten Techno DJs, Funktasy is excited to welcome back Solomun to another year on the Top Ten list.

Mau P

Mau P

Maurits Jan Westveen is an electronic DJ hailing from Amsterdam. He is widely regarded as a powerhouse in the world of electronic music and techno. He released his debut single in August of 2022 to overwhelming acclaim. It was named one of the best 50 dance tracks of 2022 by Billboard. His unconditional love for the genre bleeds into his work, and his talent and passion shows clearly in his music and sets translates to fans worldwide. Mau P has played sold out venues across the globe, bringing his infectious sound to headlining shows during Miami Music Week and Amsterdam’s Dance Event in 2023. Mau P is on track for another huge year in 2024, with multiple headlining performances, residencies, and a weekly radio show on SiriusXM.

Ben Klock

Ben Klock

Founder of the techno label Klockworks, Ben Klock is a German techno DJ in residency at the Berlin nightclub, Berghain. He began in the late 1990s and has been steadily releasing content since. In his DJ sets, Klock expertly and seamlessly moves between different tracks to manipulate listeners’ emotions. He is known for his marathon sessions that create a soundscape that envelops the listener. Klock’s unique style and hardcore marathon work won the 2015 BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year award. Klockworks’ latest two releases were the albums – KW37 and KW38 – by Temudo and Alarico, respectively. In 2024, Ben has shifted his focus to touring, but continues to keep his unique sound. The Funktasy team looks forward to Klock’s next show at the Armenian festival, MOCT 5.

Amelie Lens

Amelie Lens

Amelie Lens is a Belgian electronic music DJ, record producer, and owner of the Lenske record label. Lens was born in Vilvoorde in Belgium. She began her career in modelling, walking for outlets like Gaultier and H&M. She initially used her own name for her modelling persona, however Lens uses her mother’s name – Renee – as a DJ. By 2014, Lens quit modelling and took up DJing full-time and used her own name as her artist name. Lens is a big fan of pushing her sets to the limit, using as many tools and gadgets as possible. She often uses the Pioneer RMX 1000 – a DJ remix machine – in her live sets to create the sounds she desires. Lens won the 2016 Breakthrough Artist and 2017 Best DJ at the Red Bull Elektropedia awards. 2024 is Amelie’s second time on Funktasy’s top 10 techno DJs list following her place on the 2022 list.

Maceo Plex

Maceo Plex

Featured on the Funktasy Top Ten Techno DJ of 2023 list, Maceo Plex, a.k.a. Eric Estornel, is a Cuban-born Ibizean DJ who goes by multiple DJ names, such as Plex, Maetrik and Mariel Ito. Estornel mixes house and techno to create a complex blend. He is influenced primarily by house and techno with elements of electro and tech house. This combination has allowed Estornel to stand as a pillar of the DJing community for the last decade. Estornel’s latest album, ‘93, was released December 2023. The album is a mix of remixes, original works and collaborations with talented artists. From the 2016 season, Plex has hosted his own club night, Mosaic by Maceo, in the summer months in the Ibizean nightclub Pacha. Here at Funktasy, we look forward to where Plex goes next with his music career.

Stephan Bodzin

Stephan Bodzin is a German DJ, techno and trance producer, and record label owner. He also performs as a live artist. A classically educated musician, he is mainly a producer of electronic music. Bodzin was born in Bremen, West Germany and is the son of a musician. Self described as a “melody man”, Bodzin has recorded on Get Physical, Datapunk, Gigolo, Systematic and Giant Wheel record labels. Bodzin has been a standard in the industry – he dropped his first couple of sets in 2005 and his debut album in 2007. He has also collaborated with many artists such as Marc Romboy and Oliver Huntemann. Bodzin’s latest albums, Boa Vista and Boa Vista Remix, feature many new and familiar techno artists like Solomun. We look forward to some great melodies again this year.
